The author writes in an easy-to-read format and upbeat style. She empowers the reader by teaching them how to understand SSDI key concepts, and how to access and understand SSA and medical records. One thing I take issue with, and the theme is repeated in different ways throughout the book, is that the author alleges that SSA (DDS by association) denies cases "just because" or that they hope you will give up and go away. This simply is not the case. It is a very complex system governed by laws, with a high volume of applications, and each person a claimant comes into contact with (1-800, front desk SR, CR, or DE) has different experience and skill sets, for instance breadth versus depth, or T2 vs. T16. In reality, SSA disability programs have strict processes and timelines. Inevitably, some things will fall through the cracks (thanks, mailroom!), but on the whole SSA employees are conscientious and receive performance reviews that rate their errors and productivity. Most cases that are denied rather quickly, are denied because...lack of (good) medical evidence, or the ability to do some other type of work. In that regard, the author gives very good information! I just take issue with her subjective stance that SSA denies cases "just because." On the whole, it's a good book that is a quick read with definite "real tactics" that will help anyone applying for disability to understand what to expect during the process, and how they can effectively help their claim.
I'm further along in the disability application process, but I found the book very informative & helpful. Love reading all content from the author because she's so thorough & doesn't just say something is the way it is, she explains why.
I liked the positive and encouraging tone this book is written in. It has explanations that help readers navigate steps involved in applying for disability. I especially liked the helpful tips concerning doctor's notes and how to improve the quality of them. This book is easy to read and well organized. The end of the chapter recaps help reinforce main points.
I read the Kindle version of this book. I found it very informative and helpful in explaining the lengthy disability process. It can be a rigorous and discouraging process and this book offers many tips to help you get approved quickly. I wish this book was available a couple of years ago. It could have alleviated a lot of stress.
