Pretty comprehensive book linking King's books and parallel universes. As a huge Stephen King fan who has read Every. Single. Book. He has written, I LOVED it. The only downside is not due to the book or author, but the year it was written. It was written in 2006 so it has missed out on several books written since then that connect the other stories and universes even more. I'd love to read a guide like this that includes the last 10 years of books as well, because he's put out a LOT since then!!
I am definitely a constant reader. One of the things that attracted me to King was the concept of his shared universe and the fact that many of the stories have interaction and continuity in and within one another.As a chronicle of those things this book serves very well as a guidepost.I find myself referring to it often of late. Recently I decided to reread all of King's works in order that they were published. I have skipped a few because they are still well within my memory. This book though is still where I turn for a brief over view and reminder of the high-points of the books I might be skipping. Also, the reading order I am using comes straight from this books.As a chronicle of the various connections this book does an excellent job. So far I only remember there being on connection that the authors missed, and for the life of me I cannot recall the exact instance right now - though it was in one of the earlier stories. So there ya go, that's my big negative. ;) When it comes back to me I will update this.My only other real critique is more of an observation really. The authors do a really good job of keeping their own voices out of the way. The individual entries are very encyclopedic in nature - and sometimes this has left me wanting for just a little bit more.A work of this nature I feel could be better served by the inclusion of commentary and/or beliefs/theories of the authors - as long as it were clearly called out of course. For instance, I have always felt that "the Major" from "The Long Walk" was likely an early incarnation of Flagg. Not that I am saying the authors should agree with me or anything like that, but some of their speculation would be entertaining to me. I for one clamor for new and interesting ways to view the myriad existences that King has crafted over the years.
This is a very good guide for Stephen King fans. I would like to see an updated version, since King has to be one of the most prolific writers of our generation. Learned a lot of things about his work by reading this book (and I haven't read all of King's work, but I'm working on it) and reading this made me want to read more of Stephen King's books that I hadn't really considered before.
As a Stephen King fan with many like-minded, this is the best argument settler I have found.
A necessary read for any true Stephen King fan!
