This is one of my favorite books in the series. It is an emotional look at the relationship between Eve and Roarke. From the first book in this series Robb highlights how couples grow and develop. There is a lot of growth between these two.Every time I read this book the emotions bubble up. The crime is horrific especially when we get to the why. The procedural isn't as smooth as normal for Eve because she is dealing with personal issues. Doesn't that happen to all of us when work and home but heads? How Eve feels so alone because Roarke doesn't see how he hurts her even if it is unintentional. The secondary characters, although after all these books I can't think of them as secondary any more, rally around Eve and let her know Roarke would never hurt her is beautifully done. This is one of the few books that Roarke doesn't read Eve and his righteous indignation makes me want to loving slap him. The Summerset scene with Eve is one of my favorites in the series. I purchased the audio book to go with the e-book.I love Susan Ericksen, the narrator of this audio book. She does an outstanding job conveying all the emotions. I will listen to this again.

4.5 stars! After basically years of seeing this series around and reading about this mystical Roarke, I gave in and decided to read the In Death Books. It was quite an undertaking, since when I started there were 33 books already released in the series, not counting short stories and novellas. Besides that, deciding to read this series was a big commitment in two fronts. One, I simply had to by 33 books and secondly, I would not be reading anything else until I was done. That's how psychotic I can be when it comes to book series.December 2011 was when my journey began and by February 2012 I was done and now there is NO turning back. I am IN LOVE with this series! I not only obviously love Roarke, but I love Eve and all the secondary characters that make up this great story as well.Yes, I have become irritated with Eve at times, but I adored being able to see her grow throughout the series. It has been quite a ride, but one I will never regret hopping aboard. This series is a great mix of mystery, police drama and romance. I love every aspect of it, from the near futuristic setting, to the way J.D. Robb writes her prose. If there is one thing that bothers me, is that considering the series has 35 books published, the span of time that has passed is very short and I wish the lapse between books was a bit longer. But if you read the books throughout a longer period of time, it won't really matter, but reading them so close together made me wish for that longer lapse.Eve is such a complex character. All that she has been through has made who she is, but her story is not less heartbreaking because of it. For that matter, so is Roarke's and the fact that these two found each other is nothing less than serendipity. They need each other and I am sure they would never have grown to be who they are in the series by book 35, if not for each other's presence in their lives. Not to mention the "family" they have built with their dear friends. One of the biggest issues brought up in this series by J.D. Robb, is the Nature Vs. Nurture debate. I love it! It always makes me think and it is very satisfying to see these people that could have become something very wrong, rise above nature and blood, to become amazing people. On the crime fighting aspect of the series, I find that Robb uses two types of narrative. Sometimes she carries more of a "Monk" style, where the perpetrator is clear if not early on, but soon. The other one is where we get a punch in the face when we finally find out out who it is. I really enjoy that she doesn't have only one style, since that always keeps me guessing =DI LOVE this series and if you have yet to check it out, please do so! The first few books might not compel you completely, but keep reading! You won't regret it!

I have read this book for the fourth time now (and paid for it again I might add) and it is still as amazing as the first. The story is complex and filled with moments of tears and anger. The plot keeps you guessing the whole book and the characters are so compelling and heartfelt. The relationship between Roarke and Dallas is rich and evolves with each book. They are the most delightful coup!e I "know". Not to mention Peabody.... This is the BEST series I've ever read and this book is wonderful the first or 5 th time. Give yourself a present and read Innocent in Death and then turn around and start with the first. You won't be sorry!!!

First, you have to understand that I am not one to jump ahead of the story. I don’t get a rush trying to figure out the ending or who done it.So I was well into the story, had a couple of ideas about who did it, but mostly I was just enjoying the way the author played things out.I like JD Robb, never read her and her other Personna, don’t really intend to. In fact, I skip over all the sex stuff in the death books.So. Read the damn book. Read all of the books. She’s great five stars.

The heroine is a loner with dark personal damage she hides from others. She was driven to be a cop fighting for other abused people. Oblivious to female interests she buries herself in her job until she works up to becoming the head of a homicide department. She clings to a closet of an office, hoping it is too small for anyone to want to be in there and bother her. Eve has no desire to gather friends but one by one she ends up with a variety of tight friends and a very desirable, handsome & wealthy husband. They are total opposites but yet they are the same. He was from Ireland and a street rat that fought his way into riches. Two opposites that have a dark beginning. A man who had many beautiful women. He loves women but never fell in love until he spots a mistrusting, driven cop, Eve.The mysteries are all different and difficult to solve but the book keeps you clinging to the next paragraph. Eve’s husband brings a savage love so loyal and deep you ache. A mix of characters you enjoy the antics and daily life with them. Eve’s raw edges keeps her hanging to old ways and strange reactions as she is forced into a social life where she never knows how things work; what she does know is how to find the killer or killers and put them behind bars. She is long, lean and tough. She works out and likes mismatched work clothes because they’re less trouble. Black coffee is what she lives on because she keeps forgetting to eat or sleep when a case needs to be solved. You have to read them all and J.D. Robb as a long line of books so read the first through the last, which will keep you in reading material for some time.
