This effort was spear-headed by Meir Dagan, who created a task force code-named “Harpoon,†which coordinated efforts to end the financing of terror. Dagan was later appointed head of the Mossad, Israel’s CIA.Once Israel made the strategic decision to chase the money, it used a variety of tactics and tricks. Money was often seized by government order. However, Israel also used various clever stratagems to retrieve money from off the grid, and these stories comprise some of the most fascinating vignettes in the book.Harpoon shatters the myth that the suicide bomber is the poor-man’s cruise missile. Bringing cash into Gaza and the Palestinian Authority was both difficult and expensive, reducing financial support for terror.The United States has also learned to suffocate the funds that are the lifeblood of terrorist organizations. This book is a must read for anyone following the war on terror. Stopping the financing of terror attacks is complex and far reaching; I certainly did not know about the large Lebanese population in Venezuala facilitating major drug trafficking through Damascus to Lebanon and then to Europe. Western African countries have played a major part in laundering the money. Major banks and their US correspondents turned a blind eye until taken to court. It expanded my understanding of the threat we face as it chronicles the hard choices being made by extremely brave and resourceful people. I cant recommend this book enough.

Fantastic story movingly told. It was a great read but I kept wondering why it was being told ... making one-time classified information easily available does not seem necessary or appropriate ... and maybe that partially explains why it was such a good read.
