Can't wait to start creating things! All the pictures, cutaway pictures and close-ups are great! Directions and explanations of things are done very well and will be easy to follow. I have several books and videos plus I've watched a lot of things on You Tube --this has many of those within it's covers. Lots of information is provided. I think it would is best for someone who's had at least some basic instruction in ceramics but it would also be good for a beginner who has someone helping them to get started. I have taken ceramics classes at a community studio, however they primarily concentrated on throwing on the wheel and provided very little instruction for handbuilding. This will allow me to build on the skills I learned as well as learn some new ones..
For the Kindle version: I am constantly having to scroll back and forth across a page and/or zoom in/out on sections of a page. The layout is too hard to read on a Kindle. It seems like there was no attempt to to a decent job on a Kindle edition.
I was really looking forward to templates as ever ties by this book description. The so-called templates run into the spine of the book and are not able to be copied. Other templates are 2 to 3 inches tall and not full-size. Very disappointed !!
This is a wonderful book. I received it on time and it was just as described. I'm not a beginner but I'm not an expert. This book by Jacqui Arkin is very easy to read and understand. It would be a great reference book for different levels of talent. Highly recommend.
This book is great as it shows with side cut outs how the clay piece should look on the inside.. Amazing photos and suggestions on how and what to make. A must for any potter's library.

If you're a frustrated potter, with no wheel, no kiln, no tools and no room...lift yourself out of your depression. All you need is a few pounds of polymer air-drying clay, a sink, and a table. Anything else you might need (a rolling pin to flatten the clay) you will probably find around the house. But before all that, you need to get this book! It is the clearest exposition of any artistic process I have ever read, and loaded with tons of crystal clear photographs. You will learn how to make pots, (large and small) bowls, garden sclpture, baskets, boxes with lids and much more. You also get all the decorating techniques as well.Although the book was produced in England and deals with firing clay, the same procedures can be used with polymer air-drying clay. Polymer clay comes in several colors and can be fired as well (check the label). So, what are you waiting for? Now is the time to fulfill your lifelong dream. You too will be able to say: I can do that!
It's very similar to many pottery instruction books and has lots of pictures and good instructions....but only covers a few projects. I would have enjoyed it more if it covered a wider variety of techniques with less detail. For what it does cover it covers it well.
