This is a great book. I love these pride and prejudice variation books. I get so wrapped up in the personalities of the characters. ( I i will not put in any spoilers ) I was insulted by the bad person in this book. I wanted to strangle them at the beginning but that would have made a very short book. The editing was fantastic, I loved it.
My first thought upon reading this book is that two of its pivotal images in the beginning scenes are taken directly from the 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. These small snippets are extended into a longer story that differs from canon. The first image is of Elizabeth running pell-mell down a path at Pemberley during her trip to the Lakes with the Gardiners; in the series, she was just running down a lane near Longbourn. The other image from the series is the Infamous one of Darcy going for a swim before returning to the manor house. In this book, these two images collide, literally. A dripping wet Darcy is just returning to the house when he rounds the corner, and Elizabeth, at full speed, runs into him with such force that she knocks them both over, and they rolled down an embankment. As they are gathering their wits, both disheveled with Darcy on top of Elizabeth, the Gardiners show up, and Elizabeth's uncle immediately demands that Darcy save Elizabeth's reputation. Uncle G does go on to explain why he believes it is already a problem even though so far just the four of them know what happened.Suffice to say that, after some hemming and hawing, Darcy and Elizabeth do become betrothed. Darcy, of course, is of two minds about this. There is a part of him that likes that he will have his greatest dream realized, but another part of him realizes he cannot be completely happy if he knows that Elizabeth will be miserable married to him. He broods about this as only Darcy can. With a little help from Colonel Fitzwilliam, he decides to use the three weeks before their marriage to woo her. Will he succeed? Will this version of Elizabeth, who really does not like Darcy despite the post-proposal letter, fall in love with him?This is another sweet and lovely variation by this author. There were a few issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage, but I didn't find this detracted from my enjoyment of the story. If you like sweet Pride and Prejudice variations, especially with a nod to our favorite BBC version, you might want to give this variation or try.I received a free advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a clean variant of the original P & P story that started when EB is in the Derbyshire area with her aunt/uncle. Then they visited Pemberley grounds and this is were it deviated from the original. I read some stories with a similar beginning and they were simple including the events in the story. This story was simple but it has enough conflicts that make them real with a mix of some comical situations making it appealing to read. Though short, EB's changes in feeling was reasnable not so dramatic and doesn't seem rushed. I like the ending - both EB and FD are vindicated from the scandal.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
a fun Austen PP adaptationI admit it, I am a sucker for Jane Austen adaptations. I read all of them, the good, the bad, the great, and all of the phases in between. This one is on the good scale for me. I like it. It was fun and different and fresh. Haha, a forced engagement because of an embarrassing situation. I love it. Most of this story was great, but the endless chances that Catherine is allowed was ridiculous and severely detracted from the story... at this price, I cannot recommend this as the plot is simply too weak.
